Shopping My Stash - January 2019

Hey guys!

So I know my January post on shopping my stash is a little late, but with all the work in my final semester, as well as trying to figure out what I'll be doing next year, I honestly couldn't find the time to sit down and write this.

I was so good in January, I didn't buy any new makeup or skincare at home but when I went to Portugal, I couldn't resist buying an egg themed, three-step skincare routine. I haven't used them yet but I will soon and I'll keep you updated with how I'm getting on with them!

Skincare

I have a whole shelf dedicated to skincare in my room, along with a box on my desk with everything I'm currently using. I 100% panic-purchased a lot of The Ordinary products when they temporary shut down so I have quite a few things to get through.

My skin wasn't too bad in January so I stuck to a simple routine of face wash, cleansing pads and a moisturiser.

I bought a new face wash going to Portugal, along with the current one I was using when I left and the new one came home, unopened. Since then it was just sitting on my shelf because I had some at home that I felt the need to use first. For January, I decided to use and am still using, L'Oréal's Fine Flowers Gel-Cream Face Wash.

My skin can get pretty sensitive so the fact that this doesn't have a scent is a bonus for me! I am that lazy person who washes their face when they're in the shower so I use this every second day and it leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed.

I am a self-proclaimed Nip+Fab lover but when I saw Superdrug brought out their own version of the glycolic pads, I had to buy them! Seen as they were always out of stock when I tried to order them, I ordered a few when I could finally get my hands on them.

I started using them after taking a week's break from the Nip+Fab pads and to be honest, I really don't see a difference between the two brands. The Superdrug pads are more affordable and leave my skin feeling just as good as the higher-end pads.

The only way I'll be reverting back to the Nip+Fab pads now is if they have their fabulous €6 sale on again soon!

I don't even want to admit how long this has been on my shelf...  that's how old it is! However I never actually opened it so it was totally fine to use and I completely forgot why I loved it so much in the first place.

As you guys know, my face can get seriously dry and it's hard to find a moisturiser that actually works for me. I used this daily in 5th and 6th year but completely forgot I had bought more of it before it was discontinued.

I cannot fault this product at all. It dries into your skin and doesn't flake off as all of the goodness is absorbed by my dry, tired forehead and if you need extra moisture, leaving a thick layer on your skin will mean it's been absorbed by the time morning comes!

Makeup

With makeup, it is beyond obvious I own too much. While I have stopped buying eyeshadow palettes, there are things like powder, foundation (maybe not so much..) and concealer that I will always need to buy more of, as I use them all  the time.

Last month, I used up powders I had stocked up on (don't ask me why I decided to stock up on powder, I couldn't tell you why), a new mascara because mine ran out, as well as using concealers that I could only use when tanned. Other than that, I continued using everything I would normally use in my routine as I had enough product to last me the month and hate unnecessarily opening new makeup when you have an unfinished open product that is similar if not the same.

I am a Stay Matte fanatic. I have used this powder since I started doing makeup and no other product has convinced me to leave it behind. I normally use the powder in translucent but when I saw a Clear Complexion Translucent on a trip to London, I bought four or five of them.
Again, I don't know why I thought stockpiling was a good idea, but this isn't the only occasion I've done it either.

I crushed the powder and put it into an old loose powder container because I find it the best way to apply the product and have been doing this for almost a year now. For me, this product is the exact same as the regular translucent powder and while it does say it can clear your skin, I haven't seen any difference in my skin as a result of this powder.

This mascara came out in 2017 and I'm fairly sure I bought it in early 2018. I am so bad at buying mini mascaras and I always forget I have about five or six full-size products just sitting in a drawer, waiting to be used.

I started January using a mini Nars Audacious mascara but I hated it! I had heard so many great things about the mascara but I found flakes all over my face and under my eyes an hour or two after application. I used it a few more times to see if my application was the issue but I kept on getting horrible flakes everywhere. I tossed the product and moved straight onto L'Oréal's Miss Baby Roll and I am in love!

The formula does not flake, which was a nice turnaround from my previous mascara and I got curl, length and volume, all from the one mascara! For added volume, I apple two to three coats and with this mascara, there's no clumping. My lashes stay curled all day and I am so happy I decided to try this mascara out!

I was gifted the Physician's Formula Super BB Concealer a while ago and never used it because it was far too dark for my skin. I used fake tan a few times in January because of birthdays and my trip to Portugal so I decided to put this product to the test.

I was completely unimpressed. While the shade was fine for when I had tan on, the coverage this concealer has it shocking. I found myself putting a layer on before and after foundation and still having to use a different concealer afterwards if I had a blemish because this just wouldn't cover it up!

The formula is creamy and if you're looking for a lightweight concealer and you only need a little coverage, this is for you. However, if like me, you enjoy high coverage from any concealer you use then I'd give this one a skip!

Haircare

My mum usually buys my shampoo and conditioner for me and I always forget that I have some in the hot press and usually end up buying some myself without thinking there's some at home. I actually put a note up in my room this month reminding me that there was some in the hot press so I wouldn't go out and buy more!

So, when my shampoo ran out I started using a Head and Shoulders shampoo as well as using up the remainder of a hair mask I had bought in Portugal and just left and the end of the bath for months!

I love Head and Shoulders as my scalp can get dry sometimes and their formula really helps get rid of any dryness in a few washes. The full and strong version that I started using has also really helped any breakages I was having before Christmas (this always seems to happen when I get stressed) and left my hair feeling strong and nourished.

If you're looking for a good shampoo, it is so important to note that Head and Shoulders isn't just for people with dandruff and their range is expanding all the time, they definitely have a shampoo that suits every hair issue!

Another product I picked up and forgot about was this mask from L'Oréal's Dream Lengths. I have bought and do intend on using the shampoo and conditioner but I have been using the no cut cream since June and it has really helped the condition of the ends of my hair!

I bought the mask while I was in Portugal because I noticed the heat was having an effect on my hair health and thought this would help. For one, it smells fantastic and secondly, it left my hair feeling soft and smooth until the next wash.

When I came home, I left it on the end of my bath and pretty much forgot it existed so when I was doing a clear out in January, I started to use it again. At the moment, I'm using it on a weekly basis because it is an intense treatment but if you leave it in the lengths of your hair for up to five minutes, your hair will feel absolutely fantastic until the next wash!

I loved shopping my stash this month and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't buy that much makeup or skincare over the few weeks.

Have you been shopping your stash like me?
What products have you come across?

If not, did this give you any inspiration to save some money and use what you already own?

How to Make the Most of Your Weekends

Hey guys!

I am working on my 'Shopping My Stash' for January but I'm also on such a productive buzz at the moment that I decided to share what I do on the weekends to make the most of my time.

I balance a part-time job on top of final year college work so I have to plan my weekends in advance so I can get everything done, while having downtime as well.

I love planning. I don't know why but it's one of my best assets along with my organisation skills. If you read my previous post on my tips and tricks for semester two, you'll know my weekly planner is one of my favourite things to do ahead of a busy week.

Plan Ahead

No surprise here! If you feel like a brunch with the girls on Sunday, or a movie night on Saturday, make sure to solidify these plans before you change your mind.

I get my roster for the following week every Friday evening. When I get it, I make sure to plan my downtime before I do anything else. Whether it's casual drinks on Friday night or a night out on Saturday, if I don't make plans the week before, I'm more than likely not going to go out.

After I plan my downtime, I start to look at what readings I still have to do for the upcoming week and what might be due soon. Fitting an hour or two of reading into your weekend plans shouldn't be difficult. On top of that, study time is a must!

Planning ahead (not everything has to be set in stone), gives you an idea of what needs to be done, along with what free time you have, should an opportunity to go out pop up during the week.

Don't Stretch Yourself Thin

Do not leave everything to the weekend. If you've readings, set aside an hour every evening to ensure you stay on top of things. If you commute, bring some readings on the bus (I only started doing this recently and it has been so helpful!).

Try not to plan every minute of the weekend. Leave a few hours free each day and don't overdo the studying or working. This won't be beneficial for your mental or physical health because you can be heightening your stress levels unnecessarily and draining yourself for the week ahead, before it even begins.

While I do work weekends, I work a short shift on Saturday (four or five hours) and a full day on Sunday. Not every workplace can do this, but if you talk to a manager, this could be great for you. For me, it means I can have Saturday afternoon/evenings to myself but a full day on Sunday means I still have a nice wage the following week.

While it can be good to stretch yourself some weeks, doing it every weekend won't be good for you in the long haul!

Don't Forget to Exercise!

It's all well and good to say you exercise during the week but even a Sunday stroll is better than nothing at the weekend! I don't know how many times I've complained about a headache and my parents tell me to go for a walk in the fresh air.

While I usually snap back at them... I hate to admit that they're actually right. A brisk five or ten minute walk can clear your head and even though it is bitterly cold at the moment, the fresh air will actually do some good.

Ignore Sunday Night Blues

I don't mind going to college but does the prospect of actually having to leave my warm bed on a Monday morning to get onto a busy bus ruin my mood a little? Yes!

One way to combat the Sunday night blues is to have something to look forward to on a Sunday evening! For me it's usually watching Hawaii Five-O with my parents, sometimes with a glass of wine, otherwise it's hot chocolate. Knowing I will be spending my evening doing something I enjoy, helps to keep my blues at bay!

How do you spend your weekends?
Do you like to make the most of them like me?

My Feel Good Playlist

Hey guys!

So with college almost back, I decided I'd share my feel good playlist to help any other students through the stressful weeks of the second semester.

I have a separate study playlist (If I listened to this while studying, I'd get nothing done!), so if you'd like that one next, let me know!

My playlist on YouTube has 30 songs but I'm just going to share my top ten here! If you want to check out that playlist, click here!

10. Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours

This song is such a jam. I've yet to meet one person that hasn't heard of it because let's be honest. it's a classic.

I'm not usually one for soul music but when this song comes on, I can't help but smile and sing alone!

If you want to listen to it, be sure to check out my playlist on YouTube.

9. Geronimo

I haven't heard any other Sheppard songs but I did listen to this on repeat coming up to my mocks in 6th year. For some reason, the chorus just helped me remember definitions for physics... don't ask me why!

The chorus is just so catchy and you will literally find yourself singing along to this song without realising it.

8. Girls Like You

So this song is more recent than others on my playlist but I learnt how to play it on guitar a few months ago and it's just so easy to listen to.

This song is just so easy to listen to and I always find myself moving along with the beat after the first chorus.

7. Any Way You Want It

Okay so not the original, but before y'all shoot me... it has context! Rock of Ages is one of my favourite movies and the way Mary J.Blige sings it is just so fab.

Not going to lie, this is my ultimate shower jam. Also, if you like 80's music, this movie is a must-see!

6. I'll Make It Up To You

I love Imagine Dragons and this has to be my favourite song on Evolve purely because it has such an 80's vibe to it.

It's also a pretty positive song compared to song of their other stuff and the chorus is just so catchy!

5. Rumors

I'm not the biggest electric pop fan but I love Sofia Carson so I decided to give this song a listen and it's been on every playlist of mine since the summer!

The bass-infused song is such an easy listen and the lyrics just speak to me. I love how empowering this song is for women.

4. Get Over Yourself

I think we've all had that ex who thinks we're still into them and everything we do is just to make them jealous and this song captures the situation so well.

I love a good country song and couldn't help but relate to this song when I heard it for the first time. It's also Kelsea Ballerini, this girl is incredibly talented!

3. Rewrite the Stars Reimagined

The Greatest Showman was my favourite movie of 2018 and I love the reimagined album. In my opinion, this song is better than the original and the harmonies in this are just something else!

If you haven't dramatically lip-synced to this in your car... you haven't lived! The song itself is so beautiful and the music video that goes along with this version of the song is fantastic.

2. Everybody's Got Somebody But Me

Image result for everybody's got somebody but me

This song is very happy go lucky and beyond easy to listen to! The upbeat track is the complete opposite to the lyrics because he's singing about being hung-up on an ex but everything is so catchy that I can't help but sing along when it comes on my playlist.

I hope I'm not the only one who mistook this for a Michael Buble song the first time I heard it!

1. This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things

Rounding off this playlist the same way Taylor wrapped up the best tour I have ever been to. This song is such a mood.

Taylor let the lyrics do the talking in this song when it comes to her conflict with Kanye and I just love everything about this song. The lyrics, the instruments used, the production on stage. It's a hit in my books.

You can check out the full Feel Good Playlist here.

Hopefully these songs can get you through essays and midterms this semester!

Let me know in the comments below if you'd like my study playlist next!

Updated Skincare Routine!

Hey guys!

Back in March I did my skincare routine and a lot has changed since then! From my previous post, y'all will know that I'm making an active effort to go through what I own before buying any new makeup and skincare and I have slowly but surely been making my way through my skincare collection since March.

At the moment, my skin is pretty great, I get the odd breakout (Exam stress is a real killer for my skin), but overall, I get the odd blemish and that's about it.

For the most part, I can put it down to how I'm looking after my skin at the moment because it really is the most time and effort I have ever put into a skin routine!

The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% and Ferulic Acid 3%

I panic-purchased this when the drama with Deciem was happening a few months ago because it was one of the products I had on my list to buy, but hadn't gotten around to yet.

The blend of resveratrol and ferulic acid combines two of the most powerful antioxidants for skin. It is quite an oily product and while you can use it in conjunction with other serums and moisturisers, I apply it topically to my face and use my night cream everywhere else.

I only use it at night due to the oily nature of the product and have not noticed any redness or irritation (like I've experienced with previous Ordinary products) and would definitely recommend this to anyone who would love to give their skin an extra boost of antioxidants!

I bought mine on Beauty Bay for €6.25.

Witch Blemish Gel

Y'all know I love my Kelkin Clear Skin roller but my pharmacy has not had it in stock for ages! So, when I saw this blemish gel, I decided to try it since there was no point in just waiting for my usual skin saviour to come back into stock.

I picked this up in another pharmacy and cannot remember the price of it for the life of me, but it was similar enough in price to the skin roller (€4.65), so it really didn't break the bank. I apply this topically, wherever I have a cluster of spots or just a few blemishes, around my face.

This isn't an overnight solution but it does help reduce the appearance of any blemish overnight and it soothes the area surrounding it as well. I'm not quite ready to leave my staple spot saviour though, so I probably won't be repurchasing this.

Kiehl's Butterstick Lip Treatment - Pure Petal

Looking after your lips is so important, especially during the cold winter months and I keep finding myself reaching for this lip treatment from Kiehl's when I'm going to bed. I received my first one of these little guys when it was launching in 2017 but have since repurchased it a few times and even keep one in my handbag/college bag all the time!

The lip treatment comes in a variety of shades, I use Pure Petal when I don't want any lipstick on over it, but would love a touch of colour for my lips. The formula is so moisturising and it smells amazing.

I use the untinted version at night when I'm going to bed and just lather on a thick layer of it, to keep my lips hydrated overnight. My lips always feel so soft and moisturised when I'm using this and they haven't been chapped at all this winter!

If you're lips usually chap or become dry in the cold weather, I would 100% recommend picking one of these up the next time you're in Arnotts or a Kiehl's store! They retail for €20 (don't quote me on  that as I bought mine in duty free) and are a lifesaver for me!

The Ordinary AHA 30% and BHA 2% Peeling Solution

So I am totally new to any tip of peeling product you can use at home, mainly because my skin is super dry anyway so the word peeling just puts me off a product, but I am loving this so far!

I've seen everyone from friends to bloggers and models use this product and it was another panic purchase when I thought the company was closing down because I knew I had to try it. The whole point of it is to exfoliate the top layer of your skin while helping to reduce pore congestion, basically a dream product.

I've been using this twice a week (the recommended amount) and leave it on my skin for about ten minutes. I have read reviews where some people experience burning after applying the solution but I haven't had any side effects as of yet. I do apply a water-based moisturiser straight after though!

I would definitely recommend this product for anyone looking for a new skincare product that helps your skin look brighter and smoother after a few applications.

The AHA 30% BHA 2% Peeling Solution is available from Arnotts for €7.20.

Freederm Pore Minimiser

So this was totally an impulse buy in Boots a few weeks ago because I do have some very large pores on the side of my face and I was hoping this could help reduce their appearance.

I do like the results I get from this product. I tend to apply it to my face during the prep stage of my makeup so while cleansing etc... but before applying any makeup products and I wait about ten minutes before I start my makeup.

It does help reduce the appearance of my pores and doesn't feel greasy or like silicone (I love Porefessional but hate the silicone feeling). I also use it on my skin when I'm not wearing any makeup just to give me a little confidence boost.

The one downfall is that alcohol is the second highest ingredient so it can be a little drying and it smells very strongly of alcohol as well.

This product is no longer listed on the Boots website but is still in store and retails for about €9.

Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray

I bought this a good while ago from Beauty Bay and it was just sitting on my shelf for a good few months. I finally started using it during exams because to be honest, I was too lazy to keep my skincare routine as lengthy as it usually is, but knew I needed to keep my skin hydrated.

First off, this product is pink, so what's not to love? It also smells SO GOOD. Sort of like rose flavoured turkish delight and I love it.

I spritz some onto my face at night, just before I go to bed so I have some added hydration while I'm sleeping and it is fantastic. It helps my skin feel refreshed and so many people keep telling me to try it out as a setting spray!

I will soon and if I love it even more, I'll definitely let you guys know! Until then, I happily spritz a fabulous smelling pink spray onto my face every evening.

Mario Badescu's Facial Sprays are available from Beauty Bay and range from €8.25 to €11.95.

Uriage Age Protect Multi-Action Detox Night Cream

So the press release for the Uriage Age Protect line popped into my inbox in September and I was kind of shocked because I was 20 at the time and didn't think I needed to use any kind of anti-ageing product just yet.

Boy was I wrong! After some research, I found out that using an appropriate anti-ageing product from 21 can really help your skin as you get older. I opted to try the night cream as I do have dry skin and knew that even if I didn't notice any fine line or wrinkle difference just yet, my skin would definitely be hydrated.

Uriage created the Age Protect range with the intent to protect skin from pollution, natural and artificial blue light. The concept behind the range is fantastic as along with anti-ageing properties, it helps protect your skin from pollutants our skin faces on a daily basis.

Hopefully using anti-ageing products like this pays off in the future, but for now I'm happy with the fact that I wake up to skin that feels hydrated and the cream is non-greasy which is a bonus!

The Multi-Action Detox Night Cream has an RRP of €33 and is available from pharmacies nationwide.

I will definitely keep you guys up-to-date with any changes or additions to my skincare routine in the coming months.
I am actively trying to shop my stash, so if I do introduce any new products, they've been sitting on my shelf waiting to be used for months already!

Do you use any of the same products as me?
Do you have any recommendations for anti-ageing products?

January Favourites!

Hey guys!

I can't believe it's already the end of January! The month flew by for me!

As I wasn't in college until the end of the month, I had so much time to try out new makeup and I found some new favourites along the way!

HudaBeauty Mauve Obsessions

I got this palette off CultBeauty for my birthday and I love it! The shadows range from matte to metallic and are perfect for deepening any eye look or creating an entire look from this palette!

Although the pans are small, I have so many palettes that I will never get to the end of  (this one included) and for €25, the quality is worth the size of the pans!

I found myself reaching for this palette throughout the month and was so excited when I saw the entire obsessions range in Brown Thomas the other day!

Mauve Obsessions along with the rest of the range are available from Brown Thomas for €28.

Real Techniques Angled Tweezer

I cannot tell you whether it's because this is a brand new pair of tweezers or because I haven't used one in so long but I am obsessed with this one from Real Techniques!

Unfortunately I got this as part of a set ages ago but I only started using it recently. It is so dreamy to work with so easy to get at eyebrow hairs at awkward angles!

Payot Pate Grise L'Originale

I got this little jar sent to me a few months ago and have been using it ever since. You may have seen my instagram post on it as well!

The cream (it has a cream consistency anyway) is best dabbed on spots overnight and left to soak into the skin. I found it really helped aggravated spots overnight and they were not as noticeable the next day.

After the Christmas indulgence, this definitely helped my skin recover over the last few weeks! The only downside to this product is that it stains pillowcases so definitely put a towel over your pillowcase at night!

Payot Pate Grise L'Originale is available in pharmacies nationwide with an RRP of €23.

LOV EVENelixir Serum Foundation

This foundation is so nice! What's even better is that there's a dropper in the bottle so you minimise product wastage (yes I usually have loads of foundation left on my hand). The foundation is medium coverage so I used a concealer along with it but the lasting power was fabulous.

I tend to chop and change between foundations but with continued use, this foundation claims to even out your skin tone and improve skin elasticity!

LOV's EVENelixir serum foundation is available in selected pharmacies nationwide and retails for around €15!

Kelkin Tea Tree Roller

This tea tree skin treatment has done wonders for my skin over the past few weeks. I used this during the day, in conjunction with the payot product because this could be worn under makeup and absorbs straight into the skin.

I honestly don't know what I did before I discovered this gem, it works within hours and is travel friendly as well!

Kelkin's Tea Tree Roller is available is pharmacies nationwide for €4.60.

NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream - Cairo

If you guys follow my instagram, you'll know that I'm a fan of this line already. However, I don't usually delve into the paler side of nudes but when I got this in the post I was intrigued enough to try it!

While I wouldn't wear this with a single drop of tan on me, it is a nice shade for a neutral, daytime look! I stand by what I've said in previous posts though, the soft matte lip creams are in no way matte! They may look matte but you need to blot your lips a few times to make sure nothing transfers!

Soft Matte Lip Creams are available in selected pharmacies nationwide and Arnotts, with an RRP of €8.

Urban Decay B6 Prep & Prime Spray

This spray was my saviour this month! I always sprayed it on my face before makeup, or even just on my face after skincare, if I wasn't wearing any makeup. It helped keep my oily patches at bay during the day and my makeup stay on for longer, if I was wearing any at all!

Pairing this with the All Nighter Setting Spray is a match made in heaven!

Urban Decay's B6 Spray is available in Debenhams and their Grafton Street store for €31.

What were your favourite products in January?
Do you have any recommendations for me?
